UNESCO World Heritage Sites Of Nepal
Boudhanath: One of the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world keeps an eye out in every direction. Built sometimes around the 14th century. Situated 8 Km to the east of downtown Kathmandu, Boudhanath, is one of the most imposing landmark in Kathmandu. The 36-meter stupa of Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in south asia.
Swayambhunath: Swayambhunath Stupa is the most ancient and enigmatic of all the holy shrines in Kathmandu valley. Located at top of hill in the west of Kathmandu Valley. Swayambhunath Stupa is also called the 'Monkey Temple'. Nearby the swayambhunath hill are the other important temples, such as the Shiva Jyotirlinga Temple of Pashupatinath, Changu Narayan, Dakshinkali and Budhanilkantha.
Kathmandu Durbar Square: This place is the past kingdom of the Malla and Shah king of Kathmandu, who ruled over this city. This place is also devoted as the living god places. This place is also known as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square named after Hanuman the devotee of god Lord Rama.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square: It is also World Heritage Sites situated at the current town of Bhaktapur, which lies 13 Km east of the Kathmandu city. It is also known as the way back to culture. Bhaktapur Durbar Square and is a highly visited site in the Kathmandu Valley. Changu Narayan: This temple is on the top of the hill at the end of the eastern valley in the village named as Changunarayan, which is an old ancient Hindu Temple, where Nepal history starts. This shrine is dedicated to lord Vishnu. This temple is considered to be the oldest temple in the history of Nepal. It remains a milestone in Nepali temple architecture with rich embossed work. The two story roofed temple stands on a high plinth of stone.
2. Lumbini
Siddhartha Gautama, the Lord Buddha, was born in 623 B.C. in the famous gardens of Lumbini, which soon became a place of pilgrimage. Among the pilgrims was the Indian emperor Ashoka, who erected one of his commemorative pillars there. The site is now being developed as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre. In 1997 this places is told as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
3. Sagarmatha National Park
Sagarmatha is an exceptional area with dramatic mountains, glaciers and deep valleys, dominated by Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world (8,848 m). Several rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda, are found in the park.Sagarmatha national park is named after the highest mountains Sagarmatha, which hight is 8848 meter from the sea level. So, it's also listed in World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
4.Chihitwan National Park
Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal, which is established in 1973 and become World Heritage Sites in 1984 by UNESCO. It cover the area of 932 square kilometers in Chitwan, Makwanpur, Parsa and Nawalparasi districts of provision no.3. It is one of the famous tourist destinations, which are located in south central Nepal in sub-tropical inner terai lowlands.
